In 1987 Tampa Bay, a new detective investigating a trail of brutal VHS recordings finds Unique Video, a strange independent rental shop run by Benson Ray. The rarest tapes do more than document murder: copied from one machine to another, they reproduce violent commands and pull viewers into crimes that should exist only on magnetic tape.
The case reaches back to a 1978 House of Horrors investigation and a killer officially declared dead. With Detective Maria Fucci drawn back into the darkness that killed her former partner, Sharon Mars must enter a world of neon aisles, unmarked cassettes, and buried footage before the curse reaches her nine-year-old son.
