A hotel built with two floors develops three more overnight. Its new doors bear the names of Bram Kestrel, Nozomi Kuroda, and everyone closest to them, while Room 301 offers lives they might have lived and a wet-haired woman waits in the impossible corridors. At Marrow House, checking in is not a reservation—it is an identity the building intends to make permanent.
As Arthur Marrow fights to keep ownership of the people his hotel has reduced to rooms, public fascination with Bram and Nozomi’s television work feeds the impossible floors. A return bell may let the trapped residents check out, but the phenomenon has already reached Nozomi’s family in Japan. To free the hotel’s forgotten guests, Bram and Nozomi must refuse every role the building assigns them—including its version of their future together—and choose what their newly declared love will mean for themselves.
