In August 1996, newlyweds Claire and Evan move into Vane House, a decaying Georgia farmhouse where they hope to build a quiet life and start a family. Behind a barred section of the basement, they discover a sealed opening, children’s voices, and evidence that the house once belonged to Eleanor Vane, a nineteenth-century witch who abducted children.

The children never left. Their souls are trapped inside foot-tall, sharp-toothed creatures that crawl through the walls, feed on the living, and steal memories from the people they mark. As Claire’s pregnancy raises the stakes, the couple must break Eleanor’s hold over the house before its hungry little mouths erase their family before it can begin.
